February 22nd, 2018
Dear Trident Membership,
Welcome to another exciting season at Trident Swim and Tennis Club!
With only 14 weeks until Trident opens for its 54th year, we are excited to present to you a preview of the season to come, and to provide an enjoyable, safe, and fun-filled season for all of you. Trident officially opens on Memorial Day weekend, Saturday May 26 at Noon – we look forward to seeing all of you there! Did you know that February 24 marks the incorporation date of Trident back in 1964? This makes Trident one of the longest continually-running, independent swim clubs in the Lehigh Valley – something we should all be proud to be a part of. In this letter, we will reflect upon last year’s highlights and share some of the big things in store for 2018.
2018 Board of Directors
At the annual membership meeting in November, three new Board members were elected for 3-year terms, and several positions have transitioned. The new Board members are: Amy Hark, Brian Bleam, and Bevin Beckage. Newly appointed officers are: Peter Cheplick – President, Molly Graver – Vice President, Amy Hark – Secretary, and Beth Spellacy was appointed as returning Treasurer. We are pleased that Theresa Hudak, Steve Seiler, and Jennifer Peters are returning to serve another year on our board. Please know you can always reach out to us at email@example.com related to any aspect of your Trident experience. On behalf of the entire Board, I extend a grateful “thank you” to the exiting board members, especially Mandy Lovett, for their hard work and dedicated service in 2017. The 2018 Board of Directors and roles are:
- President: Peter Cheplick
- Vice President: Molly Graver
- Treasurer: Beth Spellacy
- Secretary: Amy Hark
- Membership: Theresa Hudak
- Pool Operations: Jennifer Peters
- Clubhouse Operations: Bevin Beckage
- Tennis: Steve Seiler
- Grounds and Maintenance: Brian Bleam
Each year, the Board is challenged with meeting our operating budget and developing plans for future maintenance and improvements, while providing value to our membership and keeping dues as low as possible. This season, we are replacing the pool coping and tile that surrounds the pool, something that must be done every 25-30 years in order to sustain the operations and safety of the pool. Much like replacing the roof on your home, replacing the coping and tile system protects the integrity of the pool and prevents more serious, costly and disruptive emergency repairs. The cost for this project will be $25,000-$30,000, and will be funded through a combination of savings, fundraising efforts, and a modest increase in membership dues, which have remained flat for the past two years. We are planning to begin this work in March so that the pool will be ready well ahead of opening day.
We are also planning for routine maintenance including parking lot resurfacing and improvements to our diving board, as well as outlining a capital improvement plan and funding for future renovations for the clubhouse, bathrooms, and tennis courts.
Pool Management Updates
During the off-season, we have been active in putting together a strong pool management team, and one that will have enhanced Board oversight. We are pleased to announce that Ms. Danielle Guttman has accepted the role of Pool Manager, and Ms. Brooke Gilson has accepted the role of Assistant Pool Manager. Danielle and her family have a long history at Trident as members and active contributors to the management and success of the club. She brings with her the interest and dedication to help Trident run smoothly and safely, and we look forward to her leadership.
Brooke joins us from the Whitehall area, where she remains Head Coach of the Whitehall Waves swim team, and also coaches at Parkland Aquatic Club. She brings with her years of experience in pool management and we look forward to having her at Trident. Supporting them will be Mr. Jim Hersch, who has worked behind the scenes at Trident for many years and is returning as our Pool Operations Manager. In this role, Jim’s responsibility is to ensure the pool is maintained to a safe, functional, and reliable standard.
Safety and rules enforcement will be top priority for the pool management staff and lifeguards this season. All management, lifeguards, and other personnel will be trained and monitored by the Operations Directors to ensure we keep you and your families safe and happy, all season long.
Swim Team / Swim Program
Trident is coming off a fantastic summer swim season last year, having won the both ABE League outright and the Championship meet to cap off an undefeated record during the regular season. Under the guidance of our dedicated coaching staff, our age-group swimmers performed well all season long, improved their times, and most importantly had fun! Our successful swim lesson program, a benefit for Trident members for many years, will continue in 2018. We are currently solidifying our 2018 coaching staff, committees, and swim programs, and look forward to communicating these to you very soon. Look for updates via email, Facebook, and on our Website tridentswimtennis.com.
Our tennis program will continue to offer lessons, USTA competition, and free play time, along with a host of other activities. David Kurvink and his KidsPlay youth tennis program return this year to Trident and we look forward to continuing our affiliation with him and this community program. Keep an eye out for more details on the website, our Facebook page, and posted in the Clubhouse. This season, we will be providing the option for our members to try something new and different – Pickleball! Whether you are familiar with pickleball or new to the sport, you should give this a try – we will be having some introductory and social activities around this which you can find on our calendar once the season begins. Regular social events will also be planned, to provide more opportunities for you to enjoy our tennis facilities, one of the features of membership that makes Trident so unique.
Social Events and News
Our Social committee is busy planning many fun and exciting events throughout the season, starting in May with our opening on Memorial Day Saturday, May 26, right on through the summer with our Member Socials, Ladies’ Night, Float & Movie nights, July 4 activities, Trident Olympics, Annual Cornhole Tournament, and more! Some new offerings including games available for sign-out will be added, and we are always looking for interested volunteers to help run these events and generate new ideas. Please reach out to our Clubhouse Operations chair for more information.
Membership Dues and Renewal Process
The 2018 Membership registration and renewal form is now active and can be completed via the website at signup.tridentswimtennis.com. Alternatively, it can be emailed to Theresa Hudak at firstname.lastname@example.org or printed and mailed to our address below. When renewing, we ask that you completely fill out the membership form including information about yourselves and your families. Beyond making sure we have your current contact information; this updated information is important in maintaining a clear picture of our membership, provides accurate list of all family members for our front desk personnel, and makes sure we serve our membership in the best ways possible. We appreciate your responses.
In addition to our traditional Active and Senior memberships, this season we are trialing two new membership options – Active Single and Active Couple – in response to membership requests and to attract new members. These options are available to adult singles or couples, residing in the same household (children are not included in these memberships). These are bonded memberships allowing full use of the Club and voting rights. As with the standard Active membership, guest passes are available for these members to bring visitors to Trident. Please see more information on the website and contact the Board with any questions. After this season, we will review and determine if these are viable options to consider adding permanently, or if revisions are needed.

On behalf of all of us, we look forward to getting started on a fun-filled and successful 2018 summer season together with all of you. Have a safe and enjoyable Spring and we will see you at Trident!
