Swim Team

Welcome!

Trident Swim and Dive Team is open to all members of the pool ages 5 to 18. We are proud to offer a fun, friendly, and exciting environment for all levels of ability of swimmer and diver. Trident is part of the twelve-team ABE Swim League, and we compete in eight dual meets throughout the season. There is also an opportunity for a swimmer or diver to attend additional meets, including a mini-meet, League Championships, and “The Best of the Rest” meet, which serves as an end of the season celebration for younger swimmers who may not have the opportunity to swim at Champs. We have a wonderful staff of coaches, led by Head Coach Mark Freeman. Many of our Age Group Coaches are team members themselves, which fosters a wonderful mentoring environment for younger swimmers. Come check us out and be prepared to make lifelong friends, have a lot of fun, and learn how to swim fast!

Pre-Swim

Our Pre-Swim Team is open to any interested swimmer ages 4 to 8, and is designed to introduce young swimmers to the fun and the environment of the team, without requiring attendance at all of the meets or events. If you have a young swimmer who may not be quite ready for the 8 and under practice but is curious or enthusiastic about being a team member, the Pre-Swim Team is for you! Practices are 30 minutes in length, and any member of the Pre-Swim Team must be able to swim one length of the pool unassisted. Opportunities for participation in meets will arise based on swimmers’ interest, ability, and our coach’s ability to accommodate these swimmers in our exhibition heats.

Fees for Swim/Dive Team and Pre-Swim Team

$50 per swimmer; $100 per family.

Please mail Registration Form, along with check payable to “Trident Swim Club” to our Swim Co-Coordinator:

Most important information for the season can be found below in the FAQ. If you have questions not answered, please contact Head Coach Mark Freeman, or one of the Swim Team Co-Coordinators, Jennifer Peters and Mandy Lovett, at tridentswimteampa@gmail.com.

Swim Lessons

Any child not quite ready for Pre-Swim Team is invited to participate in our free lesson program. Taught by our coaches and experienced swimmers, the lessons serve as a way to strengthen a child’s comfort level in the water, and work him or her up to the point of being able to swim on his or her own. In addition to the free lesson week-long sessions, our coaches and lesson teachers are available for private lessons and private (or semi-private) instruction. Contact Mark Freeman at tridentswimteampa@gmail.com for coordination of this, or contact the individual instruction directly.

FAQs

My child can swim a length of the pool comfortably, but cannot swim butterfly or breaststroke legally. May s/he participate in the regular swim team?

YES! Our coaching staff will help teach the proper techniques and work towards legal strokes.

I’m not sure if my child can swim a length of the pool, but she wants to participate in the swim team. Should I pay for Pre-Swim, or should I bring her to the free lesson program?

Bring her to the first day of Pre-Swim, which is June 15. Our coaches will evaluate her. If she is not ready for Pre-Swim, she is welcome to participate in lessons, which will begin the following week (June 19). Perhaps she can work her way up to Pre-Swim. Or, in the alternative, if she is evaluated and is appropriate for Pre-Swim, you may pay on the first day.

Is there a Team Suit and Gear? Where do I get it?

Yes. Our Team Suit is a Black Dolphin suit with the orange Team logo screen printed on it. It is available at A&H Sporting Goods, located at 3103 West Emmaus Avenue, Allentown, PA 18103.

We also have Swim Caps for sale, $5 each. See Mark or your coach for the Caps.

We have Team T-shirts, Sweatshirts, baseball hats, visors, trucker hats, and awesome towels available for purchase. Please see the order form for more details. These items are subject to order deadlines.

What is the story with parent volunteers?

All swim meets require many parent volunteers in order to run. We are thrilled to have so many enthusiastic parents willing to make our team run smoothly, and we need everyone to pitch in. Each family must volunteer at a minimum of four meets. Please see the Parent Volunteer sheet for more detail and for the link to the Sign-Up Genius.

Can I, as a parent, order spirit wear?

YES! In fact, we have arranged for Ladies’ and Men’s’ Orange Under Armor Shirts to be available for all parents in the hopes that we create a “sea of orange” at meets to show our support for our swimmers! If you are not interested in ordering a shirt, please try to wear orange in support of the team!

What is the story with the new league?

This past year, the ABE League invited a merger with the former Suburban Swim League. With the addition of four new teams (Kaybrook, Orchard View, Northampton, and Alburtis), we are now a twelve-team league. Not much changed, however. We will swim eight dual meets per season, which means there will be three teams every year that we do not swim. Our schedule is created on a rotating basis, so within four years we will have swum everyone once.

The biggest change comes in the Championship events: diving will now be an all-day event held this year on Saturday, July 22. Best of the Rest will be held Sunday, July 23. League Championships will be held one weekend later than it has been in the past, and will be spread over two days – Friday evening and Saturday (July 28 and 29).

How will we know if a meet is cancelled due to inclement weather?

The decision to postpone a meet rests with the home team, and the team may not make the decision until after 3:00 p.m. Therefore we ask that you check your email after this time. We will also post updates to the swim team Facebook page and the twitter account. All meets must be swum to conclusion; therefore, if the meet is called mid-way through, the final events will be rescheduled. The rescheduling of any meet also rests with the home team, and the reschedule date is based on a variety of factors. Per the league rules, the home team must make an effort to reschedule it within the same week as originally scheduled.
